Facebook has come under scrutiny by many for the way it handles free speech. I see both sides, but hate speech isn’t free speech. Sorry, but I’m not sorry for saying that. I wish that the people behind Facebook realized that, but that is outside of my control. What is in my control is what I do on Facebook and my kids being on there.

Jynx, Milo, and Zailey are stars when they get posted. I’m not talking about my author page (which I mainly post their pictures from my blog). I am meaning on my personal page, my wife’s page, and the scrapbook feature which allows the kids to be tagged. Pictures and videos are liked (and the other reactions) and commented on by many. I enjoy sharing such things due to this feedback. In this way, Facebook is a good thing.

Whenever negative things are shown to me on Facebook (usually an advertisement or “group post you may like”) it gives me pause and wonder why I keep such a negative tool. Other people point out that I get book sales from Facebook. I really don’t. My “presence” gets very few sales. I haven’t tracked it over the years, but off the top of my head, I think I’ve only gotten about a dozen sales through various promotions and postings. The few ads that I’ve done on Facebook has gotten me nothing.

Having said that, I still have hopes. I see some positive, feelgood posts. With some people, it is the main way I communicate with them. I’ve got friends all over the U.S., so this keeps us connected. For this reason, I wish my brothers used it more, but one brother communicates just fine by another means (well, more my sister-in-law, but close enough). I have hopes that the future of Facebook will be better. Either that or it’ll die.
