crazy

honey hole

I've been delayed in writing this blog post. Hell, I've been delayed in doing most everything in my life right now. Things have been crazy around here and I can't help feeling anxious. I was at the point the other night that I was like, "I need to blog," but then I was like, "what am I going to write about?" There it was. The question was put out there and with my energy gone, I couldn't think of what to write.

So, what drove me crazy? My Dad and Step-mother had COVID. My aunt has had a prolonged illness that has yet to be prognosed. My step-brother was in the hospital with an episode of ketoacidosis from his diabetes. The wind blew part of my roof off and water leaked inside my house. After the storm, I was without water for four days.

Things are better today. I took this entire week off work since I was at the point of use it or lose it with my PTO. My Mother came and went for a short Christmas visit so we had lots of treats, played games, and watched some TV. Then yesterday, I went for a long walk (or more correctly, four walks of various lengths) with a gun in my hand through some fields on the country side. I managed to shoot a quail, but I couldn't find it. More importantly, I was able to clear my head. I thought about what animals think (particularly what I was hunting, but I also saw some beaver chewed logs and deer tracks and my mind wondered about them). The reason I was able to shoot a quail was that I found a habitat perfect for them. So, I was in the right place at the right time since I found a shotgun shell that had to have been fired within days of me finding it (I could still smell the burnt gunpowder). The habitat is pictured above. I won't tell you where it is, but if you are in the neighborhood, I'll show you as long as I can go with you.

Writing is supposed to be a release for me. I put all the crazy down on paper (virtual paper, but still paper). This way it doesn't affect me as much. Yet, I'm like a scrambled egg when I need to be more sunny side up. I'll get there!

P. S. Now I'm going crazy as to whether "affect" or "effect" is the correct usage in the last paragraph. Pretty sure it's "affect".
