Last week, Milo and Zailey took issue with one another. It started fairly innocently. Milo needed to go outside. It was bedtime, so I needed to get both dogs out anyway. Zailey had been snoozing on the couch and didn’t want to go out. Since she was so tired, I carried her to the back door. Normally, at this point, Milo would have gotten a treat. I think he was grumpy for having to wait for Zailey. Zailey was grumpy for being forced outside even though I was being pretty nice to her.

I’m not sure how the fight began. Maybe Milo snarled at Zailey. Maybe Zailey nipped at Milo first. All I know is that within seconds, half of Milo’s head was in Zailey’s mouth. I scared Zailey away and Milo ran inside. I closed the door to give the two time to cool down. Milo’s nose had a small scratch (half an inch long) which was oozing blood (pictured is a previous outcome, not this one). Not bad, but he was trembling.

I’ve been having a weird series of nightmares that flow into each other over a few nights. I know that my boss and some of my coworkers are there, but they morph into other characters. There’s a serial killer mutilating bodies. At some point, I become a detective who has had nightmares and the serial killer is acting out the nightmares in the real world. I know I’ve had the beginning of the nightmare multiple times, but the other night I finally had the end sequence come out. Very high paced and very whodunit to the very end. I woke up thinking it would make for a great novel. And then I tried to remember the details of the dream.

Fighting to remember the details of a dream is hard for me. Sometimes I remember just enough that I can piece a story together. Other times, I can talk my way through it and can nail everything. Not everything in the dream works, so I do make changes. One example is “All in a Day’s Hunt” where I added the dog to the hunt. I also added a motive for the bad guy. There is also a long period where nothing much happens in my dream that isn’t in the story. So, by cutting and adding things, I was able to win that fight.

Fights are usually a bad thing. We’ll see if my fight with this nightmare yields a story, though.
